Fractional CFO

Fractional CFO for growing businesses

Senior financial leadership for part of the month. Numbers you can trust, cash you can see, and the confidence to make big decisions without guessing.

Signs you need a fractional CFO

  • Month-end is late, and the reports do not match reality.
  • Revenue is growing, but profit is not.
  • Margins are shrinking and no one can explain why.
  • You are not sure how much cash you will have in three months.
  • Pricing and buying decisions are based on gut feel.
  • You do not have accurate landed costs or product margins.
  • Lenders, investors or the board want reporting you cannot easily produce.

What you don’t measure, you don’t manage.

Your accountant looks backwards, making sure the books and tax returns are right. A fractional CFO looks forwards, helping you understand the numbers, plan cash and make better decisions.

We work alongside your existing bookkeeper and accountant, not instead of them.

What this looks like in practice

A 62-store quick-service restaurant group got roughly £10k a month back on the bottom line, with month-end reporting by the 2nd.
A distributor doubled its turnover in a year after its operations and systems were rebuilt around how the business actually runs.

Every business is different, and results depend on your starting point and how you implement the plan.

What clients and colleagues say

“Michelle is a rare combination of dreamer and realist. She is a natural entrepreneur with the ability to implement practical and high-impact solutions… With Michelle on your team, you should prepare for your business or project to be taken to the next level.”
Stefan BothaCEO, Optimi Group · MentorRecommendation on LinkedIn
“There was never any hard sell. She took the time to get to know us, understand what we were trying to achieve and work within our budget… Her team took the time to understand our processes and how we operated, rather than simply expecting us to change everything to fit the system.”

Frequently asked questions

What does a fractional CFO do?

A fractional CFO is a part-time chief financial officer. They produce reliable management reporting, forecast cash, build budgets, analyse margins and help the leadership team make confident financial decisions.

What is the difference between a fractional CFO and an accountant?

Your accountant mainly looks backwards: preparing statutory accounts and tax returns. A fractional CFO looks forwards: forecasting, planning, analysing performance and helping you decide what to do next. We work alongside your accountant.

Do you do bookkeeping or file tax returns?

Our fractional CFO service focuses on financial leadership, reporting and planning. We work with your existing bookkeeper and accountant for day-to-day bookkeeping, statutory accounts and tax filings, and can help you find the right support if you need it.

Which accounting systems do you work with?

We are experienced with Xero and its connected apps, and work with a range of other accounting and inventory systems, including Cin7 for stock and landed costs.

Do you work with businesses internationally?

Yes. We work with founder-led businesses around the world, and schedule sessions to suit your time zone.
